Guidance Strategy for Hyperbolic Rendezvous
نویسندگان
چکیده
In cycler and semi-cycler Mars mission architectures a crew “taxi” docks with the interplanetary transfer vehicle on a hyperbolic flyby trajectory, hence the term “hyperbolic rendezvous.” An algorithm that guides the taxi to intercept the transfer vehicle is presented with a control law for final approach. When navigation and thrust uncertainties are included, the vehicles dock at a closing rate of a few cm/s with a misalignment of a few cm. Because this maneuver is critical to crew survival, we advocate redundant systems and propellant margin for 3-σ (~99.7%) reliability. These safety measures lead to marginal increases in taxi mass.

Aas 11-531 Guidance Algorithms for Asteroid Intercept Missions with Precision Targeting Requirements
Rendezvous and intercept missions to smaller asteroids require precision guidance and control in the terminal mission phase. The zero-effort-miss (ZEM) and zero-effort-velocity (ZEV) information are used to formulate autonomous feedback guidance laws. A terminal-phase guidance strategy for a variety of intercept missions is developed. Different types of navigation information are assumed to be ...

متن کاملGuidance and Control for Spacecraft Autonomous Rendezvous and Proximity Maneuvers using a Geometric Mechanics Framework
Autonomous rendezvous and proximity operations between a chaser spacecraft and a target space object, consist of autonomous controlled approach and controlled docking with or controlled capture of the target by the chaser. Guidance, navigation and control problems during autonomous rendezvous and proximity maneuvers between spacecraft are challenging, particularly when the target spacecraft or ...
متن کاملAvionics and Control System Development for Mid-Air Rendezvous of Two Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
A flight control system was developed to achieve mid-air rendezvous of two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as a part of the Parent Child Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (PCUAV) project at MIT and the Draper Laboratory. A lateral guidance logic was developed for tightly tracking a desired flight path. The guidance logic is derived from geometric and kinematic properties, and has been demonstrated to wor...
متن کاملSymmetric Rendezvous in Planar Environments With and Without Obstacles
We study the symmetric rendezvous search problem in which two robots that are unaware of each other’s locations try to meet as quickly as possible. In the symmetric version of this problem, the robots are required to execute the same strategy. First, we present a symmetric rendezvous strategy for the robots that are initially placed on the open plane and analyze its competitive performance. We ...
